Lakbay: Vehicles of Culture
Philippine Cultural Celebration
in partnership with Richmond Public Library presents
“Lakbay” – Journey in Colour via Philippine Modes of Transportation.
(25 May 2013, Saturday, 11 am – 2 pm, Richmond Public Library, Brighouse)
“The theme of the presentation is movement of Philippine culture through art and migration and how Filipinos seamlessly assimilate into their new environment while keeping their identities close to heart. This is the Filipino community’s participation in Richmond’s Asian Heritage Month. This presentation highlights four modes of transportation – Jeepney, Calesa, Tricycle, and Vinta. Artist Danvic Briones will depict these modes of transportation in various settings outside the Philippines to symbolize the journey of Filipinos to other countries, specifically Canada. Hence, the presentation has both an educational and cultural component.”
